I will never forget the day I got my first design job in a card design studio. I had finished my degree in Fine Art over 2 years previously and had been working at a bank, a post office, in a call centre answering 999 calls, as a cinema usher, bakery assistant, you name it, I'd done it. I was absolutely ecstatic when I got the news and remember driving down the M6 in my little red Fiat Panda punching the air and screaming with joy. I don't advise that, it's probably illegal. Suffice to say I had done my time in mundane office jobs and my life was about to change. And it did! I loved my first studio job, I was so proud to say I was a 'Designer'! I will always be thankful as that is where I really began to learn my craft - I also found my tribe and I made some very special friends that I have to this day.
Cut to 20 years later, and here I am running my own design business! My artwork has appeared on cards, home & giftware in outlets all over the world, for companies such as John Lewis, Next, Dunelm, Lakeland, and amazing organisations such as the National Trust and RSPB. One of the highlights of my career so far has been designing quarterly fabric collections for Michael Miller Fabrics, which has introduced my artwork to a whole new audience of quilters and sewers across the globe. It is always such a thrill to see how they use my fabric in their wonderful creations. In recent months I have dipped my toe into the crafting world by licensing my designs onto digital crafting downloads, a new and exciting way to craft that opens up so many more opportunities for crafters to really stamp their own personality on their designs. I even painted live on Hobbymaker TV to promote the launch of my crafting kit with The Crafty Witches, something I never dreamed I would do!
I work from my studio at home in Lancashire where I live with my husband and 2 children. It's my happy place. When I'm not there drinking too much tea and eating too many biscuits, you will find me walking. One of my favourite places being the neighbouring Lake District, which has always been a constant source of inspiration both in my life and work.
